The story started in 1974 when Raphaël Mamet set its workshop in his house’s attic to create its own collection MAMET MAROQUINIER.
Mixing his know-how of saddlery, passion for sculpture and creative freedom, Raphaël Mamet puts forward a new interpretation of bags volumes. His work on leather gives birth to a unique leather pleat technique, which becomes the distinct signature of its collections.
The business extends and exports to Europe, Japan, Canada and Australia. The workshop moves to the Loire riverside.
Listed as member of the French Ateliers d’Art, awarded by the French Leather goods Federation, the workshop also received the label Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant,
which asserts its unique leather craftsmanship expertise.
Hélène Varennes took over the Atelier Mamet & Varennes in 2015. She safely preserves and sustains with the artisans the manufacturing heritage of l’Atelier.
Today six people handle the whole creation and production of both collections Varennes and Mamet Maroquinier. They carry on the handwork excellence: leather cut, hand or sewing machine stitching, assembling by hand of the whole bags.
Commitment and craft passion go along with every product, far beyond its release from l’Atelier. All bags are guaranteed for one year, and their care and repair are lifetime ensured…by the hands who designed them!
